But with 2001, his career took a new turn and he became one of the established actors of the industry. But the first few movies, Pasamulla Pandiyare, Manikkam and Ponnu Velayira Bhoomi were box-office failures. After that he fully concentrated on acting. He produced both these movies and played lead roles as well. In 1993, he debut as a director with the movie, Aranmanai Kili.
